Eergisteren vond ik in m’n mailbox wat spam die me onmiddellijk deed terugdenken aan het onwaarschijnlijk grappige verhaal van Maanzand en zijn vriend Kennedy Mobutu. In tegenstelling tot een Kongolese erfgenaam van de wijlen ex-dictator, is deze e-mail afkomstig van Cyprian Mutobe, een ordinaire “Zambian citizen”. Zijn verhaal begint als volgt:

Wat een taalgebruik zeg. Ik heb hier ongetwijfeld te maken met een oplichter die zich hoogopgeleid waant. Dat ie contact heeft met een minister lijkt me ook nogal twijfelachtig, maar de ZACCI bestaat wel echt.

3. 5% to cover all charges and taxes that might be applicable in the course of closing the transaction.
Hmm, dat is al wat ander. Twintig procent van $25 miljoen is niet slecht. Ik wist niet dat corrupt Zambiaans overheidspersoneel zo gul kon zijn. Zo’n vijf miljoen dollar zijn altijd handig als je geen werk hebt. Misschien moet ik alvast die vakantiejob opzeggen? ;-)
