Hartelijk gelachen toen ik daarnet deze e-mail binnenkreeg. Een variant van de Nigeriaanse oplichting, ook wel 419-fraude of in het Engels advance fee fraud. Deze keer baseren de oplichters zich op de hopeloze situatie in Oost-Congo, en is het gratis geld afkomstig van rebellenleider Laurent Nkunda van het CNDP. Of ze hiermee opnieuw de Ig Nobelprijs voor Literatuur in de wacht slepen lijkt echter twijfelachtig.

Due to General Nkunda’s war campaign against the government of Congo, I was instructed by the rebel leader to go abroad to purchase arms and ammunition worth of Four Million, Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars only (US$4,500,000.00) to fight the government. This fund was moved through Rwanda boarder on the 17Th of August 2008 to Belgium.
It was quite unfortunate that upon my arrival in Belgium, I immediately change my mind not to use the fund as been instructed by the rebel leader for purchasing of arms in the name of war. I’m sending this mail to you from my hotel suite in Germany where i have been for two months after succesful diverting of the fund into a security company Vault for safe keeping under non inspection contract agreement through the help of a UN diplomat. I pray that God Almighty will forgive me for all the innocent people killed during my service with Nkunda rebel force. I have promise my self and God never to involve in any form of crime to humanity through out my life time.
In view of above,I will never like to go back to Congo again because of my life and wish to invest this fund under your umbrella and supervision as joint investment.

I need you to assist me to move this deposit from the security fault to your bank account as the beneficiary.

Het Congrès National pour la Défense du Peuple blijkt inderdaad de naam van de beweging onder leiding van Nkunda. Dat ze het geld over de grens van Rwanda naar België smokkelen is dan weer minder geloofwaardig. En, ondanks zijn mooie beloften, vrees ik een beetje dat God onze beste meneer Dibiro niet zal vergeven voor zijn voortdurende misdrijven.
