Monsters vs. Aliens (2009) trailer

Dreamworks’ nieuwste creatie grijpt terug naar de monsterfilms van de jaren ’50. Monsters vs. Aliens leent haar verhaallijn van het klassieke horror-stripverhaal Rex Havoc and the Ass-Kickers of the Fantastic.

When California girl Susan Murphy (Reese Witherspoon) is unwittingly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk on her wedding day, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall. Alerted to the threat of this new monster, the military jumps into action and Susan is captured and secreted away to a covert government compound.
There, she is renamed Ginormica strong and placed in confinement with a ragtag group of other monsters: the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D. (Hugh Laurie); the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link (Will Arnett); the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B. (Seth Rogen); and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement is cut short, however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the United States. The evil alien Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson) demands that the planet be given to him.
In a moment of desperation, The President (Stephen Colbert) is persuaded by General W.R. Monger (Kiefer Sutherland) to enlist the motley crew of Monsters to combat the Alien Robot and save the world from imminent destruction.

So what?

De film wordt geregisseerd door Conrad Vernon en Rob Letterman. Wanneer ik de trailer bekijk lijkt het een combinatie Monsters Inc. (gelijkaardige monsters), The Incredibles (enorme robot als vijand) en Independence Day (massieve militaire aanval haalt niets uit).

Plus: Stephen Colbert die de president uithangt? Dat alleen is al genoeg om uit te kijken naar deze animatiefilm! Bij ons in de bioscoopzalen vanaf 1 april 2009. Ik hoop dat de monsters winnen.
