Dustin the Turkey en Ierland hebben helemaal gelijk wat betreft het Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrado deze week. Die contemporaine nummers, dat is toch allemaal eenheidsworst van de ergste soort. Fans van Ishtar en hun O Julissi Na Jalini zullen het misschien niet graag horen, maar: Irelande Douze Pointe! Spijtig dat de meeste mensen te dom

Eerste halve finale
The comedy highlight of the year gaat van start. Afkraken die handel.
- Montenegro: Obvious homo.
- Israël: Daaaamn, nog verwijfder. En zingt in het Hebrenglish.
- Estland: Mijn God, drie clowns.
- Moldavië: Pardon my French maar ik versta u echt niet.
- San Marino: Gemist, maar ook weer niet.
- Belgium: Veel te lage stem. En haar hoofd staat los.
- Azerbeidzjan: Een engel en duivel die glamrock brengen. Mijn oren!
- Slovenië: Precies een cyberslut. Jep, daar gaat haar kleed al.
- Noorwegen: “MILF met het Zweedse dames volleybalteam op de achtergrond?”, vraagt men zich hier af.
- Polen: Valt het op dat ze daar nu ook zonnebanken hebben?
- Ierland: Dustin the Turkey for the win!
- Andorra: Carnaval is precies vroeg dit jaar. Zo’n pruik zeg.
- Bosnië en Herzegovina: Poppenkast gebracht door mentaal gehandicapten.
- Armenië: Shakira-kloon.
- Nederland: Errrr… wut?
- Finland: Lordi-kloon maar dan zonder maskers.
- Roemenië: Andrea Bocelli zonder baard maar met ogen. Niet slecht. Of fuck, dat nasale wicht verpest het helemaal. Next.
- Rusland: Welk een dramaking. Er staat iemand naast u ballet te doen.
- Griekenland: Is het de bedoeling dat ik uw onderbroek zie?
Yes, de Benelux ligt er al uit. Leedvermaak. Ierland ook, wat wel spijtig is. Donderdag volgt nog meer van hetzelfde.
Tweede halve finale
In tegenstelling tot wat in de Humo stond heeft één de tweede ronde helemaal niet uitgezonden. Ik merkte pas telaat dat onze noorderburen dat wel nog deden.
Finale
We maakten vlug even een top drie van waarschijnlijke winnaars, rekening houdend met de belachelijkheid van de nummers en waarschijnlijk stemgedrag van de Oost-Europese landen:
- Oekraïne: Afkooksel van Ruslana van enkele jaren geleden. Het land behaalde vorig jaar zelfs de tweede plaats met een verkleede kerstboom.
- Polen: Geblondeerde zonnebank die waarschijnlijk wel in de smaak zal vallen bij alle Polen in het buitenland.
- Armenië: Nieuwkomer en oud Sovjet-land. Need I say more?
Wat er ook van komt, zeker is dat de winnaar uit het Oostblok komt. Andermaal pleit ik ervoor dat de VRT haar budget op een andere manier spendeert in plaats van al die voorrondes met Bart Peeters. Er zijn andere manieren om de doorsnee Vlaamse artiest te sponsoren. Ook Italië doet reeds enkele jaren niet meer mee. Men zal ons zeker niet missen.

Op 16 februari 2005 werd het startschot gegeven voor dit pioniersproject en werd de allereerste Belgische stadsblog geboren. Ze plannen er nog vele jaren bij te doen, wat voor zich spreekt. Damien Rice - 9
Vorige week kreeg ik van lief het nieuwe album van Damien Rice cadeau. Zo’n geweldig geschenk, ik ben er nog steeds niet goed van! Ik weet nog goed hoe ik, tijdens die namiddag in de Fnac in Gent, twijfelde of ik die onbekende maar mooie cd nu zou kopen of niet. Achteraf lijkt het onvoorstelbaar dat ik twijfelde. Ondertussen ken ik alle nummers praktisch vanbuiten, en met die nieuwe cd zal dat binnenkort ook wel het geval zijn.

Eurosong for kids
Ligt het aan mij, of zingen die kids gewoon écht stukken beter dan de volwassen deelnemers aan het echte Eurosongfestival?
3 december: Jan Ruysbergh kan de avond prima verwoorden.
Op voorhand hield iedereen zijn hart vast voor de live-uitzending, want de Roemenen zijn het nog niet echt gewoon flitsende televisie te maken. Het is al bij al nog goed gekomen met wat hulp van andere landen, die onder meer voor belichting en een modern decor zorgden. De intro was weliswaar wat oubollig, en ook de over-acterende 12-jarige Ioana Ivan werkte al vlug op de zenuwen. Ergerlijk was bovendien dat Ioana na vijf minuten smeekte om assistentie van een volwassen presentatrice omdat ze te klein is voor zo’n belangrijk evenement. “Laat het maar aan de groten over”: geweldige boodschap voor de kids op een Junior Songfestival.
(…) Hoewel de meeste liedjes vijf seconden na de laatste noot alweer helemaal uit het geheugen verdwenen waren, viel toch op dat sommige kinderen echt wel over een indrukwekkende stem beschikken. (…) Veel Vlaamse finalisten uit Idool en Star Academy kunnen er niet aan tippen. #

Eva De Roovere - De Jager
Kameraad Vis heeft groot gelijk met zijn ode aan Eva. Een straffe madam wiens muziek ik wel kan smaken. Ze zingt in het Nederlands en dat klinkt mooi. Heel mooi. Hoezo, gij gelooft mij niet? Luister dan zelf maar eens naar haar eerste solo plaat.

De Genkse Feesten
Dadelijk eens in de auto springen, richting Genk. Genk on stage. Loes moeten binnen tien minuten optreden en dat wil ik zeker niet missen. Later op de avond zijn er ook nog: The Magical Flying Thunderbirds, Les Truttes, Absynthe Minded, Krezip, etc.
