‘Earthlings’ documentaire over dierenmishandeling
‘Earthlings’ is een beklijvende documentaire (1u35) over hoe de mens omgaat met de andere levende wezens op deze planeet. Ik ben hier echt, écht niet goed van. Kijken op eigen risico, de waarheid is niet altijd even schoon. Met een bezwaarde geest kruip ik in bed.
‘Earthlings‘ (2003) is a feature length documentary about humanity’s absolute dependence on animals (for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and… all scientific research) but also illustrates our complete disrespect for these so-called “non-human providers.” The film is narrated by Academy Award nominee Joaquin Phoenix and features music by the critically acclaimed platinum artist Moby.
With an in-depth study into pet stores, puppy mills and animals shelters, as well as factory farms, the leather and fur trades, sports and entertainment industries, and finally the medical and scientific profession, ‘Earthlings’ uses hidden cameras and never before seen footage to chronicle the day-to-day practices of some of the largest industries in the world, all of which rely entirely on animals for profit. Powerful, informative and thought-provoking, ‘Earthlings’ is by far the most comprehensive documentary ever produced on the correlation between nature, animals, and human economic interests. There are many worthy animal rights films available, but this one transcends the setting. ‘Earthlings’ cries to be seen. Highly recommended!
1 maart: De documentaire heeft toch zijn invloed gehad. Ik heb er niet de héle nacht van wakker gelegen, maar heb toch nog een tijdje liggen nadenken over hoe mensen — en dan vooral wij hier in het Westen — omgaan met deze wereld. Veralgemenen mag je natuurlijk nooit doen, maar het moet toch gezegd dat we relatief veel consumeren. Websites die helpen om daar een beter zicht op te krijgen zijn Breathing Earth (Belgium: 1000 ton CO2 per 7,4 minuten) en Ecological Footprint (footprint: 3,3 | 1,8 planeten nodig). En om nog eens duidelijk te maken waar steak vandaan komt: een fotoreportage van beest tot bord.
Wist je dat je automatisch op de hoogte kan blijven van de laatste nieuwtjes op dit log? Heel eenvoudig: kies of je de nieuwste berichten wil ontvangen in je e-mail of via de RSS feed. In ieder geval bedankt voor je bezoek en nog veel leesplezier!
